Environmental pollution is the result of unfavourable changes in our environment that harm plants, animals, and humans. A pollutant is a substance that causes pollution. Pollutants are solid, liquid, or gaseous substances that are present in greater concentration than in natural abundance and are produced as a result of human activities or natural occurrences.
Effects of Environmental Pollution
Pollutants are created in one location and then transported to another by the action of wind or water. Some pollutants are released into the environment by humans. As a result, the air, water, and soil are polluted. When soil becomes polluted, useful microorganisms die and the soil loses its fertility. Crop production will be reduced later. If the soil is not fertile, it will have a negative impact on humans. Similarly, if water is contaminated, it must be purified before consumption. Purification requires resources. Finally, polluted air makes breathing difficult and threatens life’s survival. High levels of air pollution can increase the risk of heart disease, wheezing, coughing, and respiratory problems, as well as irritation of the skin, nose, and throat.
We can conclude that environmental pollution has an impact on life on Earth and should be reduced as much as possible. We harm nature, and nature will harm us even more. This should be stopped.
Strategies to Control Environmental Pollution
We must have felt the need to control environmental pollution after learning about water,air,soil, and industrial waste pollution. The strategies for the management of Environmental Pollution are given below:
- Waste management:In addition to household waste, there is mining waste, agricultural waste, industrial waste, and medical waste. One of the major causes of environmental degradation is improper waste disposal. As a result, proper waste disposal is critical. Two waste management programmes are being implemented under the broad umbrella of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Two of them are Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U) and Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin (SBM-G).
- Collection and disposal:All domestic waste should be collected and disposed of properly as a matter of course. Because of groundwater contamination, poor management causes health problems and epidemics. It is especially dangerous for those who come into direct contact with waste, such as rag pickers and waste disposal workers, because they are the ones who handle waste materials without protective equipment such as gas masks,gloves,and water-proof boots.

The biosphere is a narrow zone on Earth’s surface where soil, water, and air combine to support life. Only in this zone can life exist.
